I Thought…
I thought it was love when you held me through the night.
I thought it was love because you said it’d be alright.
I thought it was love because you were always there.
But I love you more, and that’s just not fair.
I thought it was love because you said those 3 little words.
I thought it was love because I always put you first.
I thought it was love because you always wanted to see me.
I thought it was love, but your love has never been free.
I thought it was love but it was all a mistake.
I thought it was love but all you’ve said has been fake.
I thought it was love because I needed it to be.
But ‘love’ was never in your list of feelings for me.
If you want something done right, do it yourself.
Focus on you, your feelings, and mental health.
Don’t rely on them to make you happy.
Because in the end, you’ll just feel more crappy.
You may think you’re in love, but answer me this:
When you’re with them, is it infinite bliss?
Do they take care of you in all the ways you would?
Do they return the favor, and treat you as they should?
Do they hold on tight, sitting with you while you cry?
Do they tell you how their world would end if you were to die?
Do they make an effort to understand?
And go out of their way to offer a helping hand?
You think it is love, but it is something more sinister.
They’re not ‘the one’, they’re just a visitor.
They will help you see what really matters,
How when you’re not loved right, your whole world shatters.
They’ll show you the darkness and what could be,
And help you set all your boundaries.
They can open your eyes to all that you are.
And show you that you really are a superstar.
You deserve the world, don’t ever forget!
‘The one’ is out there, you may not have met them yet.
I thought it was love, but the only love I really need,
Is the kind of love only I can give, the kind that comes for free.
